APM Games: Odisha women athletes bag 5 medals

Three women from Odisha bagged a total of five medals in the athletics event of the 1st Asia Pacific Masters Games, held at Penang, Malaysia from September 7, 2018. The medals included one gold, three silver and one bronze.

Parbati Sethi won the lone gold in 35-plus discus throw with an effort of 42.40m. She also secured one silver in shot put, hurling the iron ball to a distance of 10.66m. Sambalpur sprinter Rekha Dey captured one silver in 40-plus 200m event with a time of 32.36s.

Namita Patel secured one silver in 45-plus javelin throw with an effort of 17.75m. She also pocketed one bronze in discus event with a throw of 17.57m.

APMG is the first-ever masters multi-sport event in Asia. The nine-day Games, featured competition in 22 disciplines. Around 10,000 veteran players, aged between 30 to 75 years participated.
